Annual Report

Amended February 2018

Preface: In the fall of 2016, the Family and Children First Council approached community and government leaders to discuss forming a task force to share data on how opiates were impacting the community. With much support and attendance, the first meeting was held in October. Agencies share data monthly on how opiates and other illegal drugs impact their organizations and the clients they serve. The following are intended goals:

• Data sharing for community awareness and the use in grant applications to identify additional revenue.

• Bring law enforcement, government agencies, judicial leaders, and non-profit leaders together to collaborate.

• Implement strategic best practices on treatment strategies and education and prevention strategies.

• Educate and inform our State and Federally elected officials to ensure increased programming and funding in Shelby County.

Task Force members reference “A Prescription for Action-Local Leadership in Ending the Opioid Crisis”, a joint report published by the National League of Cities and the National Association of Counties.
